Assessments


A request for Assessment is submitted initially as an Application for Voluntary Education Services, CGI-1561 to create a file at the Coast Guard Institute’s Voluntary Education Department.

This record provides the following:

  • the member’s complete advancement history
  • a record of resident military and corporate schools attended
  • other documentation (i.e., college courses, credit by examination, etc.)

The assessment forms the basis of the official transcript and must be completed prior to requesting an official transcript.

Important documents to submit when requesting an assessment:

  • Course completion certificates from sources other than the USCG or ACE evaluated courses not listed in Direct Access.
  • Copies of official college transcripts (front and back) No online score reports
  • DD-214 for prior service training
  • Copies of CCAF, AARTS, SMARTS, etc.
  • Score Reports (Examples include DANTES, CLEP, Excelsior and Defense Language Institute.)
  • Licenses or certificates (i.e., FAA A&P, PADI open water diver, etc.)
  • More information on types of documentation.

Importance of completing this document:

  • Will ensure that the members record is current prior to requesting a transcript
  • Will ensure a members record is correct prior to developing a SOC student agreement
  • Will give member a complete listing of recommended credit
