GOV. RITTER APPOINTS NEW JUDGES IN 4th JUDICIAL DISTRICT

Gov. Bill Ritter today appointed Barney Iuppa of Monument and Ann Maria Rotolo of Colorado Springs as new judges in the 4th Judicial District, which serves El Paso and Teller counties. Rotolo was named to the County Court bench and Iuppa to the District Court.

Iuppa has been an El Paso County Court Judge since 1995 and was in private practice from 1989 to 1995. He served as District Attorney in the 4th Judicial District from 1985 to 1989, and he also spent four years working in the Colorado State Public Defender's Office. Iuppa received his bachelor's degree from the University of Denver in 1970 and law degree from DU in 1973.

Rotolo is currently a magistrate for the 4th Judicial District. She was in private practice from 1998 to 2001 and served as deputy county attorney for El Paso County from 1994 to 1998. She is a member of the Supreme Court Civil Rules Committee and is vice president of the Colorado Magistrate's Association.

Both positions were created pursuant to House Bill 07-1054. The initial terms of office are provisional terms of approximately two years, and then until the second Tuesday in January following the next general election. Thereafter, if retained by the voters, the term is for six years. The current salary for a District Court judge is $118,972 and $113,856 for a County Court judge.
