International Green Building Challenge - 2002

Artist rendition of 20 River Terrace, the first "green"  residential high-rise building under development, Battery Park City, New York, New York. The 2002 Green Building Challenge took place at the annual Sustainable Buildings Conference in Oslo, Norway, on September 23-25. Five building projects were chosen to represent the United States in 2002 based on the unique design and energy savings of these buildings. The five projects finally selected are listed below under U.S. Projects. Two of them are High Performance Buildings projects.

GB Tool and Manual

The most recent GBC tool and manual can be found on the International Initiative for Sustainable Built Environment (iisbe) Web site. International administrative support to the GBC project is provided by iisbe.

Participating Countries

Sixteen countries participated in GBC 2002: Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Finland, France, Hong Kong, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and United States of America.

U.S. participation in the Green Building Challenge was sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy's, Office of Building Technologies.
