Eastern time (closed on Federal holidays.) Health Information Specialists are
available to assist you and provide information on diseases of the heart, lung,
and blood, and sleep disorders and accept orders for publications. After hours,
you may leave a voicemail message or send an e-mail, and your inquiry will be
answered the next business day.
As a research institute, the National Heart,
Lung, and Blood Institute does not provide referrals to doctors nor counsel
people on specific medical problems. Advice on treatment or care of an
individual patient should be obtained through consultation with a physician or
other health professional who has examined the patient and is familiar with the
patient's medical history.

disseminates materials for
health education and awareness campaigns.

The NHLBI Diseases and
Conditions Index (DCI) also provides patients and the public with a quick

language. The DCI features many illustrative graphics and animations throughout
its topics, which are printable as fact sheets.
