Hurricane/Typhoon Tracker
PO.DAAC's Hurricane
/Typhoon Tracker site shows both near-real-time and historical(fully-processed) data from

* SeaWinds on QuikSCAT: ultra hi-res wind images and sigma0s
* OSTIA: daily, optimally interpolated 5km SSTs (soon)
* Jason: ocean altimetry (later)

Images, Subsetting, Plotting - (POET)
The PO.DAAC Ocean ESIP Tool (POET) provides interactive, on-line subsetting and visualization of many of PO.DAAC's data products. Viewing options include: latitude-longitude maps, animations, time series plots, and space-time profiles.

Format options include: GIS (GeoTIFF, ArcGrid), image (GIF, PNG, JPG), scientific (HDF, NetCDF), and raw (binary, ASCII). This graphical user interface was developed by Ocean ESIP (Earth Science Information Partner).

PO.DAAC data currently accessible by POET include:

Sea Surface Temperature:
Level 3: MODIS, NAVOCEANO, AVHRR Pathfinder, MCSST, NCEP/Reynolds, NOAA/GOES

Ocean Surface Topography:
Along Track: Residuals, Significant Wave Height
Level 3: WOCE Residuals

Ocean Vector Winds:
Level 3: QuikSCAT, ADEOS-II, ERS-1, ERS-2, NSCAT

Near-Real-Time Image Distribution Server
PO.DAAC's Near-Real-Time Image Image Distribution Server (NEREIDS) provides satellite browse images within a few hours of capture.

The images are also kept in a short-term rolling store for observing recent changes. Currently available images include AVHRR sea surface temperature, SeaWinds on QuikSCAT backscatter, and TOPEX/POSEIDON and Jason sea surface height anomaly. Other data sets will be included in the future.

OPeNDAP (DODS)
OPeNDAP enables remote data sets to be accessed through familiar data analysis and visualization packages, just as if they resided locally on the user's machine. OPeNDAP handles transport, translation and subsetting of data residing in most Earth science data formats. For a list of PO.DAAC data accessible through OPeNDAP, see PO.DAAC OPeNDAP data. For the complete list of OPeNDAP Datasets, please see the Unidata OPeNDAP Datasets list.

DODS data are accessible to users through: MATLAB, IDL, Ferret, Live Access Server. For more information about OPeNDAP, please see the
Unidata DODS homepage
.

PO.DAAC's Data Browse Tools
A web-based calendar interface browse image tool may be used with the following PO.DAAC data sets to select and display browse images in GIF format.
SeaWinds on QuikSCAT Browse Tool

High Efficiency File Transfer
Aspera is a file transfer technology tool that provides a reliable and faster data transfer solution. This new approach overcomes the challenge of large data set transfers over any Internet Protocol (IP) network, regardless of network conditions and geographic distance. Most of PO.DAAC’s data products are accessible via Aspera. For more information on how to download and use the free web client software with PO.DAAC data products, please go to: http://podaac.jpl.nasa.gov/TOOLS/heft.htm
