Thomas Morgan Roberts

Thomas Morgan Roberts was sworn in for a second term as a member of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission on July 12, 1985; the term will expire on June 30, 1990. He was sworn in as a first-term member of the Commission on August 3, 1981.

Commissioner Roberts has first-hand experience in the manufacture of nuclear power plant components having served as Chief Executive Officer and President of the Southern Boiler and Tank Works, Inc., of Memphis, Tennessee, from 1969 to 1978. His experience in nuclear-component manufacturing required daily contact with relevant codes, standards and regulations from the time he first joined the company in 1962.

Mr. Roberts also has been an underwriting member of Lloyd’s of London and a director of Boyle Investment Company.

He received his B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1959 and, subsequently, was commissioned an ensign in the U.S. Navy. He served as engineering officer during his three years aboard a Navy destroyer.

Mr. Roberts has been active in civic and cultural affairs having served as a member of the Employee Benefits Committee of the National Association of Manufacturers and was formerly President of the Memphis Symphony. He was formerly a Vice President and member of the Executive Committee of the Washington Opera.

Mr. Roberts and his wife are residents of Memphis, Tennessee, but currently reside in Chevy Chase, Maryland. They have three children.
