NMFS Opens Directed Fishing for Pacific Cod by Catcher Vessels Less than 60 Feet (18.3 Meters) Length Overall Using Hook-and-Line or Pot Gear in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is reopening directed fishing for Pacific cod by catcher vessels less than 60 feet (18.3 meters (m)) length overall using hook-and-line or pot gear in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands management area (BSAI) at 12 noon, Alaska local time, April 30, 2008, according to Robert D. Mecum, Acting Regional Administrator, Alaska Region, NMFS.

This action is necessary to fully use the 2008 total allowable catch of Pacific cod specified for catcher vessels less than 60 feet (18.3 m) length overall using hook-and-line or pot gear in the BSAI to resume and is issued pursuant to 50 CFR 679.25(a)(1)(i), (a)(2)(i)(C), and (a)(2)(iii)(D).
