WELCOME

CGRU SOUTHCOM provides Commander, USSOUTHCOM a ready-reserve force of deployable USCG expertise, prepared and equipped to conduct intelligence, operations, planning, and other specialized duties in garrison and throughout the Americas in support of U.S. diplomatic, defense, and homeland security goals.

CGRU SOUTHCOM is an 18-billet Joint Reserve command compromised primarily of mid- to senior grade officers and enlisted members.  The unit drills at U.S. Southern Command Headquarters in Miami and at Joint Inter-Agency Task Force – South in Key West, FL.  CGRU members travel extensively throughout Latin American and the Caribbean in support of the security initiatives and national security related exercises.

CGRU personnel work in close cooperation with SOUTHCOM Directorates and the Coast Guard Liaison Officer in support of SOUTHCOM’s requirements.  CGRU members serve within several of SOUTHCOM’s directorates including the Security and Intelligence Directorate, the Partnership for the Americas Collaboration Center (PFAC) and the Stability Directorate as current operations watch officers; operations and response planners, intelligence officers and as Exercise Coordinators.  Other members serve as planning officers at JIATF-South.
