TINA W. JONAS

Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller) and Chief Financial Officer

TINA W. JONASTina W. Jonas was sworn in as the Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller) and Chief Financial Officer of the Department of Defense (DoD) on July 28th, 2004. She oversees DoD financial management activities, including a budget of over $400 billion. Her responsibilities include developing and implementing DoD - wide financial policy, financial management systems, and business modernization.

Prior to being sworn in as the Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller), Ms. Jonas served as an Assistant Director and the Chief Financial Officer of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). She was responsible for the FBI's budgetary and fiscal matters, financial planning, and property and procurement activities.

From April 2001 until August 2002, Ms. Jonas served as the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Financial Management. In that capacity, Ms. Jonas was the principal adviser to the DoD Chief Financial Officer and other senior DoD officials for accounting, financial reform, and fiscal matters.

She served as a Professional Staff Member for the United States House of Representatives on the House Committee on Appropriations, Defense Subcommittee from 1995 to 2001 and as a senior Budget Examiner in the Intelligence Branch of the National Security Division in the Office of Management and Budget from 1991 to 1995.

Ms. Jonas has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Arizona State University and a Master in Arts in Liberal Studies from Georgetown University. She is the recipient of the Department of Defense Medal for Distinguished Public Service.
