OPM Seal FERS Transfer Model

After reading the FERS Transfer Handbook and exploring other areas of this web site, you should be fairly sure of which retirement system is best for you.

The FERS Transfer Model has been provided to serve those employees who will feel more confident in their decision after calculating a benefits comparison. The Model will work with information you provide concerning your work history and career expectations to generate a comparison of retirement benefits under CSRS and FERS.

However, it is important to remember that these projections are based on future assumptions. If any of these assumptions such as future earnings, future TSP returns, or Social Security expectations, proves not to have been accurate -- the accuracy of the benefits projections are equally less reliable.

In interpreting your output, pay closer attention to the differences between the CSRS and FERS projections, rather than the actual numbers generated. It is important to stress that this program is intended as a comparison tool.

Version 2.0

The current version of the FERS Transfer Model is Version 2.0. The computations have been refined and the report has been expanded to provide more explanation. We recommend you replace any previous version of the Model that you have with this version. If benefits projections are an important part of your decision, you can rerun them with this version so that you can make a decision on the basis of more precise information.

Read the new Benefits Administration Letter which provides updated information on the Model, as well as help in interpreting your results. [PDF format] [Word Perfect 5.1 format]
