(1997) "Measuring Employment From Birth And Deaths In The
Current Employment Statistics Survey," Proceedings of the Section on Survey Research Methods,
American Statistical Association.
The Current Employment Statistics (CES) survey is a
nationwide monthly payroll survey of close to 400,000
business establishments. It provides current estimates of
employment, hours, and earnings in industry and area detail
for the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and
the Virgin Islands. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) is
currently redesigning the CES survey. The research presented
here is one component of the redesign.
