2 GHz MSS Licenses

On July 17, 2001, eight orders were released authorizing the 2 GHz MSS systems to provide service in the United States. The systems will be capable of providing mobile voice, data, Internet access and other new satellite communications services to all parts of the country, from urban areas to remote rural communities. Licenses were issued to six U.S. applicants: The Boeing Company; Celsat America, Inc.; Constellation Communications Holdings, Inc.; Globalstar, L.P.; Iridium LLC; and Mobile Communications Holdings, Inc. Order were issued to two non-U.S.-licensed companies that filed letters of intent for spectrum reservation: ICO Services Ltd. (licensed by the U.K.) and TMI Communications and Company, Limited Parternship (to be licensed by Canada).
