Marine Debris Marine debris is any man-made object discarded, disposed of, or abandoned that enters the coastal or marine environment. It may enter directly from a ship, or indirectly when washed out to sea via rivers, streams and storm drains.
Marine debris threatens oceans and coasts; marine mammals, fish, and seabirds; human health and safety; and navigation.

Watershed Database & Mapping Projects NOAA's Assessment and Restoration Division has developed numerous Watershed Database and Mapping Projects. Because each project is unique, with its own characteristics, their components vary. But each builds upon a standard database structure and a data delivery application (Query Manager). Most include GIS data as well.
|
Assessing Environmental Harm Evaluating oil and chemical behavior and assessing effects and damage from spills.
|
Abandoned Vessels Identifying and removing vessels abandoned in sensitive coastal environments.
|
Natural Resource Damage Assessment Through the NRDA process, DARRP and co-trustees conduct studies to identify the extent of resource injuries, the best methods for restoring those resources, and the type and amount of restoration required.

Featured Software & Data Sets for Emergency Responders Pages on our site that provide access to software created by the Office of Response and Restoration (OR&R) to aid first responders, planners, and restoration practitioners. |
GNOME
The GNOME Development team has released a Location File for New York Harbor, plus an updated GNOME 1.3.0! |
Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) Maps
ESI maps help oil spill responders and planners to identify vulnerable coastal locations, establish protection priorities, and identify cleanup strategies. |
ESI Training
A new training module is now available for ESI users. The manual and associated training materials will help spill responders and planners learn to use ESI data in multiple formats. |
Electronic ICS Forms
Electronic versions of the ICS forms that are used by people responding to oil spills or hazardous chemical accidents, as well as other kinds of emergencies. We offer them in two formats: database and PDF. |
