Cert Description |
The Albuquerque Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) has been in the process of standing up since October 2004. Initially the CERT program was going to be hosted by Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC). In late summer 2005, the CERT program was revisited by local citizens, through the LEPC chair to once again make an attempt to bring this program to live in the city of Albuquerque. Efforts were made by the Office of Emergency Management and the LEPC to start such a program. In late 2005, the State Citizen Corps representative provided program information, funding requirements and identified direction on which the City of Albuquerque must take to meet funding requirements thus leading to the establishment of an Albuquerque Citizen Corps Council.
The CERT program is moving ahead full throttle. Committees are currently developing goals and milestones, which have been identified in the goal section of this document.
CERT Structure and program highlights
The CERT, in conjunction with the CCC, has established a training, marketing and planning committee to develop goals and objectives for which to move the CERT program. Through the efforts of these volunteers, the first Albuquerque CERT class will begin in January 2006. Following this class the program will schedule a Train the Trainer (TTT) class to incre ase the number of instructors. During the TTT, additional classes will be scheduled. The goal for the first year is to train a minimum of 100 students in various locations throughout the city. |
