Food Safety Education and Consumer Information

With a click of the computer mouse and the soft clatter of a few keyboard strokes, YOU can capture INSTANT feedback on your education programs. That’s because the Partnership for Food Safety Education now has a survey instrument available to you online. And as a bonus, you’ll also find a data entry tool. Analyzing the effectiveness of your food safety education program has never been easier.
With 23 targeted questions, the survey instrument lets you assess the knowledge and skills of people participating in your food safety education programs before and after training. The questions go to the heart of safe food handling, assessing behavior and knowledge concerning the four key Fight BAC!® messages: clean, separate, cook, and chill.
The nationally recognized Research Triangle Institute (RTI) developed the survey instrument. All of the questions on the survey instrument were vetted with the help of Cooperative Extension educators and focus group tested by RTI. The questions are designed to be easily and quickly administered—and effectively capture safe food handling knowledge and practices.
More good news. If you have Microsoft Excel 97 (Version 8.0) or higher loaded on your computer, you don’t have to struggle creating your own spreadsheet to analyze the responses. We’ve done the work for you. You can input your survey data and the Excel data entry tool will instantly analyze the findings from your survey. The data entry tool will figure percentages for each of the questions from the survey. For example, you’ll instantly know the percentage of the people surveyed that used a food thermometer to check the internal temperature the last time they cooked hamburgers!
