Cert Description
The Barrow County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates local citizens about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their community. The 8 week program trains them in basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members are also encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community. The inaugural CERT Program offered by Barrow County Fire and Emergency Services concluded in June 2006 with 6 graduates. The goal of the program is to offer 2-3 classes a year to better educate and prepare the citizens of Barrow County for an emergency.
