PRIMARILY TEACHING: Using Historical Documents in the Classroom

July 27 - July 31, 2009

Where & when is Primarily Teaching?

Primarily Teaching will be held at The National Archives Northeast Region-Boston, 380 Trapelo Road, Waltham MA, on July 27 - July 31, 2009.

What is Primarily Teaching?

Real documents tell the real stories of the real people who are our nation. By the end of the week, you will be able to define the resources of the National Archives, find original primary sources, and use these records to create lessons.

What do we do in Primarily Teaching?

Primarily Teaching provides a varied program of lectures, demonstrations, analysis of documents, group work, and guided and independent research. You research the holdings of the National Archives and develop strategies for using primary sources in your classroom. Or you design professional development activities to help classroom teachers use primary source documents effectively.

Who should attend?

Teachers of history, geography, government, civics, sociology, psychology, economics, American studies, literature, and the humanities from upper elementary through college levels, librarians, media specialists, archivists, and museum educators all take Primarily Teaching.

What does the workshop cost?

The fee for Primarily Teaching is $100. This includes all materials. (Past participants have also been given a small stipend to cover costs.) Teachers receive 10 PDPs. An additional fee of $750 provides college credit through George Mason University.
