  Regional Jobs FAQ

Regional offices, like the Bureau itself, are organized along Program lines. Each has a Regional Commissioner who reports to the Associate Commissioner for Field Operations located in Washington, D.C. Under the Regional Commissioner are three Assistant Regional Commissioners; one each for Price, Compensation, and Federal/State Cooperative Programs. Each region also has a public information unit, staffed primarily with economists. There is a Regional Commissioner for Economic Analysis and Information located in New York City who provides oversight for the regional information program in coordination with the National Office's Office of Publications. Four regional locations (Atlanta, Chicago, Kansas City, and Dallas) also have data collection centers managed by BLS economists, but staffed by contractors, who do telephone assisted or electronic data interchange collection on specific Program areas.

Shown below are all the cities where BLS has official duty stations - note that the number and type of positions vary by location. Main locations (those with 40 or more full-time positions) are shown in bold.
