SECRETARY OF LABOR, ALEXIS M. HERMAN ANNOUNCES $11,200,000 FOR THE OUT-OF-SCHOOL YOUTH PILOT DEMONSTRATION PROGRAM.

As a result of a recent procurement action, the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration is awarding 5 grants totaling $11,200,000 to the following organizations: These grants will increase the long-term employment of youth living in high-poverty areas. In these pilot projects, Opportunity Areas will be created in targeted communities to expand employment, education and training opportunities for out-of-school youth, with priority given to high school dropouts. Youth employment and development activities funded under these grants shall be used for a structured set of initiatives focused sharply on getting out-of-school youth ages 16-24 into long-term employment at wage levels that will prevent future dependency. These grants are authorized under the Job Training Partnership Act. The period of performance is for eighteen months.
