Beargrass on Big Mtn

Stretching along the west side of the continental divide from the US Canadian border south approximately 120 miles lies the 2.3 million acre Flathead National Forest. The landscape is built from block fault mountain ranges sculpted by glaciers, and covered with a rich thick forest. By providing abundant recreation and a wealth of natural resources, the Flathead is a perfect place to relax and enjoy your National Forests!

Mushroom Permits Available for Flathead National Forest

Personal-use and commercial permits for picking mushrooms on the Flathead National Forest are available. For the 2008 season, a permit is required to harvest mushrooms anywhere on the forest. more


Sheppard Creek Post-Fire Project

The Tally Lake Ranger District of the Flathead National Forest has completed a draft environmental impact statement for the Sheppard Creek Post-Fire Project and is requesting public comment. The project is in response to the 2007 Brush Creek Wildland Fire located approximately 20 miles west of Whitefish.

Public comments regarding the draft environmental impact statement should be received by the Tally Lake Ranger District by July 1, 2008.
