John L. Stowell

Vice President of Federal Affairs, Environmental Strategy and Sustainability at Cinergy Corporation

John L. Stowell is Vice President of Federal Affairs, Environmental Strategy and Sustainability at Cinergy Corp., an energy services holding company based in Cincinnati, Ohio.   Cinergy was formed by the 1994 merger of PSI Energy in Indiana and The Cincinnati Gas & Electric Company.  In May 2005, Cinergy and Duke Energy announced their intention to merge.

John has been with Cinergy since 1986, serving as PSI’s Washington representative until 1994 when he moved to the new corporate headquarters to lead the combined Federal and State Government Affairs Department.

In 2002, he launched the company’s sustainability program and, in 2003, was promoted to lead the company’s environmental efforts in a newly created department that includes federal government affairs. In late 2004, John’s department published the Air Emissions Report to Stakeholders, which discusses potential impacts of greenhouse gas regulation on the company.

John, a graduate of Michigan State University, is a former newspaper reporter and served for four years as press and legislative assistant to an Indiana member of Congress.   In addition to his other responsibilities at Cinergy, he chairs the company’s political action committee and grassroots organization.
