Contact: Coral Bailie, (541) 957-3425

ROSEBURG, OR – September 15, 2008 – The Douglas County Museum is teaming with the Forest Service to present an informational program about salmon and steelhead on the Umpqua National Forest on Tuesday, September 23, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Douglas County Museum in Roseburg. The presentation is the third in a new series called "Fireside Chats".

Jeff Dose, senior fish/aquatic biologist for the Umpqua National Forest since since 1987, will cover the status of salmon and steelhead in a question and answer discussion with the audience at this third fireside chat. Topics will include wild versus hatchery issues and what is being done, or not done, to improve the status of the fish.

Dose has over 31 years experience as a professional fish biologist and has spent the past 28 years working in the Umpqua River basin with two federal land management agencies. Dose is a published author and reviewer of several scientific journals and lay publications, and been active in the American Fisheries Society, having served in numerous elective and appointed positions.

This free event, around a campfire, in the courtyard of the Douglas County Museum is for all ages. The Museum is located off I-5 at exit 123 across from the fairgrounds. Refreshments will be served.

Reservations are not needed, but are encouraged because of space requirements. To reserve your space, please call the Douglas County Museum at 541-957-7007.
