Section of State Highway 138 Closed Along North Umpqua RiverContact: Alexis West, (541) 498-2219 (Fire Information Desk) ROSEBURG, OR – September 5, 2008 – Increased fire activity in the Rattle Fire in the Boulder Creek Wilderness prompted officials to close a stretch of State Highway 138 between mileposts 44 and 59 effective Friday, September 5th. This section of the North Umpqua Highway is from Apple Creek to the turnoff to Toketee Falls. Motorists are asked to check the Oregon Department of Transportation’s website www.tripcheck.com before traveling. If conditions allow, ODOT may reopen the highway to allow one-lane traffic to be led by a pilot car. Travelers should anticipate extensive delays. The Umpqua National Forest announced that the Boulder Flat Campground and boat launch as well as Eagle Rock Campground are closed. Extensive fire suppression vehicles and traffic are in the area. People are asked to stay clear of this firefighting operation. # # # |
