Posting News and Events in Plone

Plone News & Events is the system that CABQ will soon use to promote news (such as official news releases, announcements, etc.) and calendar events (with a specific date, time & location) to CABQ employees and citizens of Albuquerque.

In the near future, you will use Plone News & Events to post news items and calendar events to the public website (www.cabq.gov). You will continue to use Noticias to post employee news & events to the employee website (eweb.cabq.gov).

News & Events are frequently highlighted on the City's home page, which receives more traffic than any other webpage.

Here's how to add News to your website!

1. Click on your News folder.

2. In your News folder, select the Add to Folder drop-down menu, and then select News Item. Your Add to Folder menu will have fewer options than the one shown here.

3. The Edit News Item window appears. Fill out this form completely.

Add News Item contents

  • Title: The text you type in the Title field is used as the link in the News portlet on the left-hand side of your page and in the News listing in your News folder.
  • Description: The text you type in the Description field should be short, sweet, and catchy. This text will appear in the list of news items your News folder, and may be your only shot at hooking people's attention.

4. Click the Save button. The screen refreshes and shows you your new News item in Draft mode.

Add Event contents

  • Title: The text you type in the Title field is used as the link in the Events portlet on the left-hand side of your page and the Events listing in your Events folder.
  • Description: The text you type in the Description field should be short, sweet, and catchy. This text will appear in the list of Event in your Events folder, and may be your only shot at hooking people's attention.
  • Event Starts: This is the date and time that the event starts. If you are advertising a music festival, for example, use the Event Starts fields to describe when the gates open. Then use the Event body text field to describe when each musical act begins, etc. If you are advertising a multi-day event, use the Event Starts fields to describe the opening of the first day.
  • Event Ends: This is the date and time that the event ends. If you are advertising a music festival, for example, use the Event Ends fields to describe when the event is over and people can expect to go home. If you are advertising a multi-day event, use the Event Ends fields to describe the closing of the last day. The event listing will disappear from the Events porlet and Events listing in your Events folder on this day at this time.
  • Event body text: Describe the event in detail here. If you are advertising a multi-day event, use the Event body text field to describe the agenda for each day. If you are advertising a one-day event with many sessions, use the field to describe start and end times for those sessions. Include information about parking, admission fees, allowed and disallowed items (like coolers and food), etc.

4. Click the Save button. The screen refreshes and shows you your new Event in Draft mode.
