Forum on Quality Systems

Implementation Within SIM

Abstract

This Forum will be the first of a series of meetings and other activities focused on assessing the effectiveness of Quality Systems Implementations for national metrology Institutes within Americas. Various approaches for the implementation of Quality Systems to underpin the delivery of measurement services at the NMI level will be presented and discussed.

National Metrology Institutes (NMIs) have the responsibility for establishing and maintaining the highest level metrological references in a given country/economy. The calibration and measurement services that they provide must be of high quality and delivered in a consistent manner. A well-documented Quality Management System that is congruent with NMI responsibilities might facilitate the achievement of this goal. Furthermore, the CIPM Mutual Recognition Arrangement (CIPM MRA) calls for the presence of "means of assuring quality" in the signatory NMIs. The Joint Committee of the Regional Metrology Organizations and the BIPM (JCRB) has determined that this requirement must be met by 31 December 2003.

For these reasons, the Interamerican Metrology System (SIM) is organizing this Forum, the first of series of meetings and symposia where member NMIs will present for discussion and critique various approaches for implementing Quality Systems to underpin the delivery of measurement services within their countries/economies.
