CSB  NEWS RELEASE
Board Debuts New Web Site, CSB.gov

(Washington, DC - September 16, 2003) The U.S. Chemical Safety Board has officially unveiled its new web site, CSB.gov, with a host of new features to improve user access.

"The new site represents the culmination of a year-long effort to expand and organize all our public information," according to CSB Chairman Carolyn W. Merritt. "We recognize that CSB.gov is a principal means for getting our reports, recommendations, and safety information out to interested communities. With the new site, getting that information will be faster and easier than ever."

The new web site features tailored information pages for each current and completed CSB investigation. In addition to current status information and a brief description of each investigation, the new pages offer a variety of other useful information, such as photographs, reports, digests, news releases, slideshows, meeting notices and transcripts, and video clips.

Other features of the new site include an updated section on the Board, its mission and staff; a new Newsroom section, containing information and resources for journalists; and a Video Archive, where visitors can view free webcasts on many recent CSB investigations. Additional web pages contain complete indexes of CSB investigation digests and other safety publications, such as hazards studies, safety bulletins, and alerts.

Popular features from the CSB's previous site will continue to be offered, including the Recommendations section and the searchable Incident News Reports database, formerly known as the Chemical Incident Reports Center or CIRC.

The CSB is an independent federal agency established in 1998 with the mission to protect workers, the public, and the environment by investigating and preventing chemical accidents. The CSB determines the root causes of these accidents and makes safety recommendations to government agencies, companies, and other organizations. The CSB does not issue fines or citations or apportion responsibility for accidents.

Comments or suggestions concerning the site are welcome and should be directed to Daniel.Horowitz@csb.gov.
