FCIC's Educator Page
Here are three activities to help you teach young citizens how to be proactive consumers and learn about the government. Click on the titles below to link to the activities you would like to preview. The Teacher's Guide contains the lesson plan, without answers. For a teacher's copy of a lesson plan which includes the answers, please e-mail us.

Middle School Consumer Action Scavenger Hunt
(suggested grade level 7-8):
This is a project that will take 2 to 4 class periods to complete and that will help students find useful consumer information covering topics such as money and credit, health and privacy. Students use the worksheet provided and find the answers on the
FCIC Consumer Action Website or in the printed copies of the Consumer Action Handbook. This fun and dynamic lesson will provide young students with important information about consumer rights and protections, and give them the tools to be more effective consumers while they're in school and beyond.

USA.gov for High Schoolers
(suggested grade level 9-12):
This activity will familiarize children with the
USA.gov website. USA.gov provides links to Federal sites along with some of best sites from other organizations-all grouped by subject. Students follow the worksheet provided and search for answers on the USA.gov website.

The Car Chase Scene
(suggested grade level 11-12):
This is a project that will take 2 to 4 class periods to complete, and that will teach students how to find information on the Internet by using one of their favorite subjects, cars! Students use the worksheet provided and search for answers on the
FCIC Website. The answers are found in publications, websites, and links to other resources under the topic "Cars." This fun assignment will provide young consumers with information and tools on comparison-shopping, budgeting, and safety that will payoff when they buy cars and other major consumer products in the future.
