President George W. Bush will meet Eunice Sanchez when he arrives in Colmar, Pennsylvania, on Thursday, September 9, 2004. Sanchezis an active volunteer with the Amachi mentoring program in Philadelphia.
President Bush hascalled on all Americans to volunteer two years or 4,000 hours over the course of their lifetimes, and hecreated USA Freedom Corpsto help foster a culture of service, citizenship, and responsibility. Since March 2002, President Bush has met with more than 300 individuals around the country, like Sanchez, who are answering the call to volunteer service.
The Amachi mentoring program provides mentoring relationships for children with incarcerated parents. Sanchez has volunteered with the program since March 2001, and is a mentor to her ‘little sister,’ Amelia. The Amachi program is a partnership of churches, the Big Brothers Big Sisters Association, the Center for Research on Religion and Urban Civil Society and the Robert A. Fox Leadership program at the University of Pennsylvania, and Public/Private Ventures.
Through USA Freedom Corps, President Bush wants to help every American answer the call to service by strengthening and expanding service opportunities to protect our homeland, support our communities, and extend American compassion around the world. Interested volunteers can find information at www.usafreedomcorps.gov or by calling 1-877-USA-CORPS.
