An experimental price index for the computer industry

A pilot study that began in 1987 produced a new price index for computer industry products.  Chief among the study's findings was that resampling would have to be done over a much shorter time period than the 5 to 7 years now in force for industries covered by the Bureau's existing Producer Price Index.  This article introduces an experimental producer price index for the computer industry.
