Adult Education
Adult Education in Nevada is comprised of three programs, each "specializing" in certain areas but each dedicated to the academic, civic, cultural, and economic betterment of adults who do not have high school diplomas.

Adult Basic Education and English as a Second Language (ABE/ESL) programs provide literacy services as well as civics education in community and faith-based organizations and in community colleges throughout the State. Over 85% of the adult students in these programs are English language learners.

Adult High School Programs (AHSP) are offered in 14 of the 17 school districts in Nevada and also in Department of Corrections facilities. Adult students who have not graduated from high school earn adult diplomas after earning necessary credits and passing proficiency exams. Classes are scheduled to accommodate adult schedules.

Both ABE/ESL and AHSP programs encourage and prepare students to take the GED tests.

General Education Development or GED testing allows adults to earn the equivalent of a high school diploma. The GED is an assessment instrument, administered at 21 test sites throughout the state, to validate an adult's academic skills and knowledge.
