Archidonic Acid Metabolism in Neuroinflammation: A Postdoctoral Fellowship is available starting from September/October 2008 in the Brain Physiology and Metabolism Section at the National Institute on Aging in Bethesda, MD, to study the involvement of brain arachidonic acid cascade and its downstream signaling pathways in models of neuroinflammation, excitotoxicity, and demyelination, using knockout and transgenic mice.
The successful candidate will be involved in basic and translational research efforts directed at examining the biology of inflammatory markers and neuronal damage using both cell culture and mouse model systems. The successful candidate will work in a supportive and dynamic environment with excellent training opportunities.
Applicants should be highly motivated and possess a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree in neuroscience or neurochemistry, with receipt of the last graduate degree within the past 5 years. The candidate should have a strong background in molecular biology and neuroscience, documented by peer-reviewed publications. Experience with immunohistochemistry, Western blotting, real-time PCR, EMSA, brain stereotactic surgery, primary cultures, and behavioral studies is preferred.
