U.S. Labor Department To Host Health-Care Industry Executive Forum In Denver
Forum Will Help Plan Strategy to Fill Jobs in High Growth Industry

DENVER, Colo. -- Assistant Secretary of Labor for Employment and Training Emily Stover DeRocco will discuss the critical shortage of health-care workers in a keynote address on Monday, Aug.18 at the annual conference of the American Society of Health Care Human Resources Administration in Denver.

The forum will be held at the Adam's Mark Hotel, 1550 Court Place from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

DeRocco's address will allow time for an interactive forum, during which she will hear directly from health-care executives, and solicit their recommendations for future direction.

The information-gathering focus of DeRocco's appearance is part of the Bush Administration's High Growth Job Training Initiative, a strategic effort to improve the public workforce system's responsiveness to labor market needs.

"This Bush Administration understands how important it is to give employers the skilled workers they need, and to give workers the opportunity to succeed in jobs with a prosperous future," said DeRocco. "That's why asking questions and getting answers from industry leaders is so important. It's an opportunity to hear first-hand what's needed, so workers will be prepared for the jobs employers need to fill."

As part of the High Growth Job Training Initiative, the U.S. Labor Department conducts extensive industry research to identify expanding industries; convenes forums with executives and human resource professionals to determine workforce gaps in the industry; and, in partnership with employers, educational institutions and workforce leaders, develops a plan to address business needs.

This is the fourth in a series of Health Care Executive Forums conducted by the department's Employment and Training Administration to address growing human resource needs in the industry.
