NASA Ames Research Center is currently developing a sample cache to be added to the 2009 Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) rover. The addition of a cache will enable the rover to collect a diverse set of rock samples from the Martian terrain, providing a potential Mars Sample Return (MSR) mission with the option of retrieving and returning these samples to Earth for further study.
