These high energy conferences cover the hot topics affecting adolescents today. Expert speakers present on: Exercise, Nutrition, Eating Disorders, Boundaries with Boys, Stress Busters, Conflict Resolution, Choosing Healthy Friends & Goal Setting. Activities include: Kick-boxing, Sports Condition, and Hip-hop dance routines. Each participant receives a “Girls Only” workbook, breakfast, lunch and snacks. Events are held at schools, churches and community centers.
The Northwest Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine consists of 350 students and professionals practicing clinical medicine, research, education and an array of health and fitness disciplines. Members work in clinical settings, research laboratories, classrooms and fitness facilities to advance health through science, education and medicine.
The Northwest Chapter supports various initiatives to promote fitness and health through physical activity including educational meetings and newsletters. A highlight in 2006 is the chapter’s Annual Meeting to be held February 24-25 in Corvallis, Oregon.
Wellness Works NW encourages and motivates older adults to become more responsible for their own personal wellness by linking them with wellness component programs and resources.
We organize and conduct a Senior Wellness Conference for Senior Centers, with an emphasis on prevention, that addresses four major wellness components: Movement, Nutrition, Fall Prevention and Memory Wellness. Participants will be provided an "action plan" model that will allow them to address a community wellness need for implementation. Conference coalition partners will provide necessary expertise and support to assist in action plan success. Follow on visits and linking centers with similar plans enhances the proliferation and exchange of coalition partner resources.
Following a successful evaluation, a mid-summer initiative will combine a farmer's market donation program with a big band dance movement program at one of the county's larger parks. The integration of nutrition and movement are the significant goals of this year's agenda.
