Organic Compounds in Near-Surface Environments as Drivers on the Redox-Reaction Highway: A Tribute to the Career of Mary Jo Baedecker

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is co-sponsoring a special session celebrating the scientific contributions of Dr. Mary Jo Baedecker at the Geological Society of America’s Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado, November 7-10, 2004. The objective of the session is to present information that builds on Dr. Baedecker’s work on redox reactions driven by organic matter in subsurface environments impacted by human activities. Dr. Baedecker conducted groundbreaking research on the fate of creosote, crude oil, and gasoline contamination at Toxic Substances Hydrology Program research sites. Dr. Baedecker is retiring from her current post as Chief Scientist for Hydrology in the USGS’s Water Resources Discipline. Abstracts are due July 13, 2004.
