Research on the Environmental Effects of Produced Water Presented at the 9th International Petroleum Environmental Conference

The Integrated Petroleum Environmental Consortium (IPEC) brings together professionals from academic and industrial backgrounds who seek solutions to environmental problems related to regulatory, legal, and technical issues of an environmental nature. At the 9th International Petroleum Environmental Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on October 22-25, 2002, the USGS sponsored a special session entitled "Fate And Transport Of Brine And Hydrocarbon Releases In Soils & Water, Northeast Oklahoma." Ten papers based on findings from the Toxics and Energy Resources Programs' Osage-Skiatook Petroleum Environmental Research Project were presented during the session. The project is studying the environmental impacts associated with disposal of saline water produced during petroleum production.
