USGS Co-Sponsors Special Session on Anaerobic/Aerobic Processes for VC and DCE Biodegradation, 2003 In Situ and On-Site Bioremediation SymposiumThe U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the U.S. Navy co-sponsored a special
session on "Anaerobic/aerobic processes for VC and DCE biodegradation"
at the Seventh International Symposium on In Situ and On-Site Bioremediation,
Orlando, Florida, June 2-3, 2003. The symposium is sponsored by Battelle
http://www.battelle.org/. Vinyl chloride (VC) and dichloroethene (DCE)
are common degradation products of industrial solvents, such as tetrachloroethene
(PCE) and trichloroethene (TCE). Clean-up professionals are often faced
with high concentrations of VC and DCE at TCE and PCE contamination sites
where biodegradation processes have seemingly stalled at the VC and DCE
degradation step. This session shed light on the biodegradation of these
recalcitrant compounds. USGS scientists presented the following paper
at the session. Anaerobic microbial oxidation of chloroethene contamination: field and laboratory evidence, by Paul Bradley and Frank Chapelle Conveners
