ICARD 2000

The Fifth International Conference on Acid Rock Drainage (ICARD) was held in Denver, Colorado, USA, on May 21-24, 2000. ICARD was an international conference dedicated to the technological advancement of the science and study of acidic drainage. The conference focus was on prediction, prevention, control and long-term management of potentially acid-generating tailings, waste rock, and mine walls. The major sponsor of the meeting was the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration. In addition, the U.S. Geological Survey's Toxic Substances Hydrology Program and the Mineral Resources Program were two of the conference's co-sponsors. Several papers presented at the conference highlighted recent research on abandoned mine lands, research conducted by the Toxics Program.

USGS scientists presented the following papers at the meeting

  • Ball, J.W., Nordstrom, D.K., and Runkel, R.L., 2000, Reactive and non-reactive transport modeling for Wightman Fork, Summitville Mine, Colorado--Application of the OTIS/OTEQ model to a low-flow synoptic study, in Proceedings from the Fifth International Conference on Acid Rock Drainage, Denver, Colorado, May 21-24, 2000: Littleton, Colorado, Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration, v. 1 of 2, p. 125-134.
