Gradients at Hydrologic Interfaces as Indicators of Key Earth-Surface ("Critical-Zone") Processes

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is a sponsor of a special session on "Gradients at Hydrologic Interfaces as Indicators of Key Earth-Surface ("Critical-Zone") Processes" (T68) at the 2006 Geological Society of America Annual Meeting, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, October 22-25, 2006. This session presents information on chemical and physical gradients at hydrologic interfaces. Understanding these interfaces can provide information about processes that can sustain or threaten life. Key processes include weathering, nutrient cycling, regulation of natural water supplies, and transport of contaminants.
