Special Session on The Influence of Scale on Characterization of Fractured-Rock Aquifers at the AGU 2003 Fall Meeting

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is sponsoring a special session on "The Influence of Scale on Characterization of Fractured-Rock Aquifers" (session H15) at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting, San Francisco, California, December 8-12, 2003. The objective of the session is to address the influence of scale on hydrogeologic investigations by bringing together hydrologists, geologists, geophysicists, and others involved in fractured-rock studies, in order to better understand the relationship between scale of investigation and the amount and nature of geologic information that is needed to adequately characterize a fractured-rock aquifer. It is hoped that the information presented at the session can be used by water-resource managers to develop better management policies for communities that rely on fractured rock aquifers and by those tasked with cleaning up contaminated sites located above fractured-rock aquifers.
