U.S. Geological Survey scientist Dr. Michelle I. Hornberger presented the seminar "Factors Influencing Cu and Cd Bioaccumulation in a Freshwater Macroinvertebrate: Linkages Between Field Observations and Controlled Laboratory Exposures," Menlo Park, California, December 7, 2006. Dr. Hornberger conducts research on understanding how environmental and biological factors influence the fate of metal bioavailability in aquatic insects. Different insects can be used as bioindicators of metal contamination in a mine impacted stream, including caddisflies, stoneflies, and craneflies. The seminar was part of the USGS's biweekly Water Resources Discipline Research Seminar Series. A streaming video of the seminar is available.
