Census Bureau Hires Managers in New Fayetteville Office — A management staff has been hired for a Local Census Office in Fayetteville, N.C., which will be the hub of local census activity for the 2008 Census Dress Rehearsal. About 3,000 hires will be made for census work in a nine-county region in that part of the state. (Tentatively scheduled for release mid-February.)
The Key to an Accurate Census in Indian Country is Early Participation by Tribal Governments — The U.S. Census Bureau has begun mailing advance informational booklets to all federally recognized tribal governments asking for assistance in providing updated addresses for their reservations and off-reservation trust lands. (Tentatively scheduled for release mid-February.)
Census Bureau Hires Managers in New Stockton Office — A management staff has been hired for a Local Census Office in Stockton, Calif., which will be the hub of local census activity for the 2008 Census Dress Rehearsal. About 2,000 hires will be made for census work in San Joaquin County. (Tentatively scheduled for release late February.)
Demographics Surveys
Extended Measures of Well-Being: Living Conditions in the United States, 2003 — National measures from the Survey of Income and Program Participation covering five broad domains, including possession of appliances and electronic goods, such as cellular telephones; housing conditions; neighborhoods and community services; ability to pay bills and buy groceries; and expectations of getting help from friends, families and communities. (Tentatively scheduled for mid-February.)
The Effect of Taxes and Transfers on Income and Poverty in the United States: 2005 — Examines how income distributions change when the definition of income is varied to reflect the inclusion or exclusion of different components, such as Social Security, food stamps and income taxes. (Tentatively scheduled for release early March.)
County and Puerto Rico Municipio Population Estimates: July 1, 2006 — Flagler County, located along Florida’s northeast coast, has been the nation’s fastest-growing county in recent years. Will this enclave, named for the builder of the Florida East Coast Railway, continue to hold this distinction? The answer will be revealed via Internet tables showing population estimates, rankings and components of change for the nation’s 3,141 counties and county equivalents since Census 2000 and up to July 1, 2006. (Tentatively scheduled for release early March.)
Economics Surveys
2006 Annual Survey of State and Local Government Employment and Payroll — Annual estimates on how many people are employed by state and local governments — from state-owned alcoholic beverage stores to law enforcement officers to higher education — and the payroll of these governments. Summary data are provided for each state. (Tentatively scheduled for release this month.)
Annual Capital Expenditures Survey: 2005 — Update on how much money U.S. businesses invested in their infrastructure, such as buildings and equipment, and spending for furniture, computers and vehicles. (Tentatively scheduled for release late February.)
Facts for Features
Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month (May) — We celebrate the contributions of Asian/Pacific Americans to our nation with statistical information on this group. Included is a separate set of statistics for Asians, and Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders covering demographics and businesses. (Tentatively scheduled for release March 1.)
Older Americans Month (May) — We celebrate the contributions of our nation’s older citizens with a set of data on the demographic characteristics of the population 65 and older. (Tentatively scheduled for release March 1.)
Cinco de Mayo — "The 5th of May," a national holiday in Mexico, has become a time to celebrate Mexican heritage and culture. The Census Bureau joins in the festivities with a collection of data relating to U.S. residents of Mexican descent. (Tentatively scheduled for release March 5.)
Mother's Day (May 13, 2007) — Flowers, perfume and jewelry are all popular gifts given on this special day honoring our nation's moms. This fact sheet presents statistical information from the Census Bureau's economic and demographic subject areas on these and many other topics pertaining to this observance. (Tentatively scheduled for release March 13.)

American Community Survey
The American Community: 2004 — Feb. 15 — These three reports present a portrait of racial and ethnic population groups in the United States based on data from the 2004 American Community Survey. Each report provides information on a number of characteristics (e.g., education, household type, income, commuting, etc.). Data are presented in tables, figures and maps. In addition, the Asian and Hispanic reports present data for selected detailed groups (Asian Indian, Chinese, Filipino, Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese for Asians; Guatemalans, Hondurans, Salvadorans, Colombians, Ecuadorians and Peruvians for Hispanics). Two additional reports on the Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander population and the American Indian and Alaska Native population will be released later this year. Internet address:
