Upcoming

Demographics

Demographic Surveys

Geographic Mobility: 2005 — Americans are a transient lot. These tabulations contain national and regional information on how often and how far people move, along with characteristics of the movers and reasons why they move. (Tentatively scheduled for release mid-June.)

Educational Attainment in the United States: 2005 — Tables-only annual update from the Current Population Survey, with national and state data on educational attainment. Also included: earnings data by level of education and statistics by race and Hispanic origin. (Tentatively scheduled for release late-June.)

Consumer Expenditure Survey Data Collection — Information about how much Americans spend on items ranging from gasoline to groceries will be collected in July from about 7,000 randomly selected households across the country. (Tentatively scheduled for release late-June.)

Estimates and Projections

Subcounty Population Estimates: July 1, 2005 — Last year, Port St. Lucie, Fla., perhaps best known as the spring training home of the New York Mets, was the nation’s fastest-growing city of 100,000 or more people. Will there be an encore performance this year? Find out when July 1, 2005 estimates of the population of the nation’s incorporated places — cities, towns, villages and boroughs — are released. (Tentatively scheduled for release late-June.)

Economics

Economic Surveys

2004 County Business Patterns — This report covers small business growth, average employee wages and geographic concentration of industries across the nation. The data — published annually since 1964 and at irregular intervals back to 1946 — are provided at various geographic levels, including state, county and metropolitan statistical area. (Tentatively scheduled for release mid-June.)

2002 Economic Census

Survey of Business Owners: Native Hawaiian- and Other Pacific Islander-Owned Firms: 2002 — Report on the state of these businesses from a survey conducted every five years. Statistics are shown separately for businesses with and without paid employees. The report includes data on sales and receipts for the nation, states and local areas with 100 or more Native Hawaiian- and other Pacific Islander-owned businesses. Also, data on business ownership for major, individual Pacific Islander groups are included. Due to limitations, publications of data will be withheld at many levels of geography. (Scheduled for release June 28.)

Survey of Business Owners: American Indian- and Alaska Native-Owned Firms: 2002 — Report on the state of these businesses from a survey conducted every five years. Statistics are shown separately for businesses with and without paid employees. The report includes data on sales and receipts for the nation, states and local areas with 100 or more American Indian- and Alaska native-owned businesses. The 2002 survey did not include tribal-owned businesses —considered to be government entities — so the data are not directly comparable to those collected in the 1997 survey. (Tentatively scheduled for release in late-June.)

Facts for Features

Back to School — Although many students have yet to begin their summer vacation, the Census Bureau is already looking ahead to the opening of the new school year. This factsheet presents statistics from the Census Bureau’s demographic and economic subject areas pertaining to teachers, students and the reopening of our country’s schools. (Tentatively scheduled for release late-June.)

Labor Day — How many of us contribute the proverbial blood, sweat and tears to make our economy go? Statistics from the Census Bureau’s demographic subject area, pertaining to the nation’s labor force, provide the answer. (Tentatively scheduled for release early-July.)
