Agronomic & Forage Crops
Overview

Field and forage crops are grown on most of the more than 200 million acres of harvested cropland in the United States. These crops constitute the principal economic driver for the nation's rural communities. They provide the food, feed grain, oil, and fiber crops for domestic consumption, and they are a major component of U.S. export trade, both as raw commodities and value-added products. CSREES, in partnership with the Land-Grant University System, other agencies, and the private sector, supports research and extension efforts to address production management systems for agronomic and forage crops to achieve optimum economic returns with minimal adverse environmental impacts.
