SUBJECT: UPDATING TRANSIT INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DATABASE

APTA has completed the transit information technology database on the APTA web site as a service to members. The database is designed to gather information from each transit agency and provide a single searchable source of the technologies being used in the industry. As recently discussed at the transit chief executive officers seminar, this database allows transit agencies to benchmark the practices of similar-sized agencies in various technology areas. Specifically, it can be used to:

  • Compare IT staffing and funding
  • Determine best practices being used in the industry
  • Find out which agencies are using various technologies
  • Research vendor offerings

Through the use of this tool, each agency will be able to see its relative standing in the industry to develop a clearer IT vision.

This database is a live document and should be continuously updated. If you have not entered your information into the database, we ask that you do so as soon as possible. If you are already in the database, please update the information annually, or as soon as changes occur in your profile. We recognize this will require an investment in time, but we also believe this investment will be of great value, both to our industry and to your agency. Like any system, this tool is only as valuable as the number of agencies taking part.

For the initial log-on go to http://www.apta.com/itsurvey.cfm, use "Apta_Survey" as the ID and "Ridetransit" as the password. The web site will prompt for one person from each agency to be designated as the point person and allow for a single ID and password to be created for each agency. The IT committee has been contacting agencies to encourage full participation and to provide any support needed using the web site.

If you have questions or want more information, please contact Jeff Popovich, APTA’s Director – Information Technology at (202) 496-4829 or email jpopovich@apta.com.

Thank you for your cooperation.
