Transit Security Grants

This grant section includes the program guidelines and application materials for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Transit Security Grant Program for Fiscal Years (FY) 2006 and FY 2005.

The FY 2006 DHS Appropriations Act, which was signed into law on October 18, 2005, provided $150 million for a discretionary grant program to address security and preparedness enhancements for transit systems, as well as inter-city passenger and freight rail. On July 6, 2006, the Department of Homeland Security announced that it would allocate $136 million of the $150 million in funding for transit security grants.

Similarly, the FY 2005 DHS Appropriations Act, which was signed into law on October 18, 2004, provided $150 million for a discretionary grant program to address security and preparedness enhancements for transit systems, as well as inter-city passenger and freight rail. In the spring of 2005, the Department of Homeland Security announced that it would allocate $130 million in funding for transit security grants and an additional $5 million for ferries from another account.
