Microtechnology has applications in all phases of the chemical processing industry. Every unit operation can be miniaturized if the application requires it. For instance, because of their heat and mass transport advantages, microchannel reactors present the possiblity to exploit chemical reactions that cannot be readily exploited by larger-scale technologies. Microtechnology may represent new solutions to existing chemical engineering problems.
