Methanol is a desireable alternative to gasoline for certain fuel applications. This full-scale unit can provide sufficient vaporization of liquid methanol for a 50-kilowatt fuel cell power system for automotive applications. As with other fuel vaporizers developed at PNNL, the energy for vaporization is supplied in integrated catalytic combustion of a dilute hydrogen stream that is drawn from the fuel cell anode effluent.
