Mine safety and health in Japan is regulated by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry through its Mine Safety and Inspection Bureau and Mine Safety and Inspection Department. The Ministry enforces the "Mine Safety Law" . The Mines Safety Law is a comprehensive enactment which includes provisions concerning:
- the establishment of training requirements by the Ministry; - mandatory employment by mine owners of safety personnel; - the mandatory establishment of mine safety committee; - the right of the Ministry to inspect new installations of structures or equipment; - the right of the Ministry to inspect mines and shut-down mines in imminent danger situations; - the establishment and workings of the Central Mine Safety Council (used to review proposed ordinances); and - the establishment of the Mine Safety Technology Training Center. |
