In Contemporary Rhythm: The Art of Ernest L. Blumenschein

The painter Ernest Blumenschein had a career as an illustrator for many years.  Join children's book author and illustrator Neecy Twinem for a family workshop exploring the world of an illustrator.  Make your own illustration to take home.

This workshop is ideal for school-aged children and their families.  The workshop is free with museum admission.  No registration is required, but seating is limited.

Neecy Twinem is an award winning children's book author and illustrator with 26 published titles for various ages.  She graduated with a fine arts degree from the San Francisco Art Institute and has exhibited her artwork in the US and Europe.  Neecy enjoys writing and illustrating in the inspiring natural surroundings of her home studio in the Sandia Mountains.

Free General Admission Days at The Albuquerque Museum 
The first Wednesday of the month is a free general admission day.   General admission to the Museum is also free every Sunday morning from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. 

Saturdays in July
Family Art Workshops
1 – 2:30 p.m.
Fun for all ages. All supplies are provided.  Free with Museum general admission.





Tours

Sculpture Garden Walking Tours - Docent-guided tours are offered Tuesday-Saturday at 10 a.m. during the months of April through November.

Old Town Walking Tours - Docent-guided tours are offered Tuesday-Sunday at 11 a.m. from mid-March to mid-December.

Except as noted, all events are free with Museum admission.


Don't miss tours at Casa San Ysidro in the nearby Village of Corrales. Casa San Ysidro is a Spanish Colonial home owned and operated by The Albuquerque Museum. Casa San Ysidro is closed to the public during December & January.

Douglas Kent Hall: A Tribute
Through September 14

In remembrance, a selection of Douglas Kent Hall’s black and white photographs from the permanent collection is on display, as well as a series of mixed media assemblages by Hall entitled La Frontera.

Authentically American, The Taos Society of Artists: The Olson Family Collection
Through September 7, 2008

 

The Taos Society of Artists was founded in 1915 by artists drawn to northern New Mexico and included the likes of Oscar E. Berninghaus, William Herbert “Buck” Dunton, Walter Ufer, Joseph Henry Sharp, and Eanger Irving Couse.  The group eventually included 21 artists and was disbanded in 1927.  Ten artists are represented in this exhibition that accompanies the featured exhibition on the works of Ernest L. Blumenschein, another of the Taos Society of Artists.

Imagenes de la Frontera, Border Images 1910-1916

The Mexican Revolution is a story of complicated shifting alliances for the Mexican participants. The United States was interested in the stabilization of Mexico at the least and outright invasion and annexation at the most.

The images of the Mexican Revolution and the United States Punitive Expedition in this exhibit are selected from a photo album that was compiled by Captain Donald A. Young of the U.S. 7th Cavalry. Captain Young was stationed at Fort Bliss north of El Paso when he purchased this collection. The album contains 201 photographs of people and events on the border between the United States and Mexico during the Mexican Revolution. Otis Aultman sold the photographs in his El Paso studio. The 26 photographs represented in the exhibit depict prominent characters as well as scenes from the conflict.

Cultural Renaissance: 40 Years of The Albuquerque Museum
An exhibition celebrating the history of The Albuquerque Museum and featuring selections from the Museum's art and history collections. On display through September 14, 2008.

 

 

Common Ground: Art in New Mexico

A permanent art exhibition highlighting a significant amount of museum-owned works from the late 19th century to the present day, including some that have never before been viewed by the public. It will be displayed chronologically giving visitors a glimpse into the evolution of art in New Mexico.

 

 

Four Centuries: The History of Albuquerque

The permanent history exhibit focus is on historical maps of the southwest region of the United States, Spanish occupation, Camino Real, Hispanic life, Civil War and statehood in 1912.
